Hi all,
I did read all the posts on the possible consequences of installing this
patch (huge speed loss, etc)... so I have not installed but it keeps
appearing in the list of critical patches when I run the SW updates util...

Is this still representing a potential problem?

thanks!

No, the version now on offer was fixed a few weeks after the original
version was discovered to cause problems. I've not heard anyone have the
same problems with the one currently on offer.

This was corrected i a new version that came out at the end of May.
But I regard it as a fix you probably do not need . It plugs a loophole
that matters to corporate networks, whereby someone who has access to
the machine as a limited user can promote himself to admin status.
Which matters to corporations needing to guard against possible
disaffected employees, but is not relevant on a standalone or family
machine (well perhaps if here is a *very* bolshie and savvy teenager
around. . but you would probably have him administering it anyway)
