Pasting a long range

Can a formula be copied down a long range without dragging? Suppose I had a
formula in B1 that I wanted copied down to B8000. I used to do this years
ago in Supercalc as follows:
/(C)opy,B1,<enter>,B2:B8000,<enter>. The cursor could be in any cell when
you did this. This method would save time for long ranges. Using Excel 97.

Ken, here is one way, select B1, then in the name box type B8000, then
shift+enter, then Ctrl d

One way, select B1, press F5 (or ctrl G), put B8000 in the reference box and
hold down shift while press enter,
press ctrl + D or you can type B1:B800 in the name box and press enter and
then ctrl + D

Copy cell B1. Type last cell address (e.g. B8000) in the
box right above the spreadsheet area, which displays the
selected cell address, and hit Enter. This will take you
to that cell. Now press Ctrl+Shft+UpArrow, and you have
selected the target range. Ready to paste!

One more Ken.

If you have continuous data in Column A down to row 8000, you can just
double-click on the fill handle of B1.
