I had backed up the pst file on my last computer
fortunately before it crashed. When trying to add it to
the new system I get a message that I do not have
permission to view it.
How can I remove this password protection and load my own
pst file? It was created in Office 2000 and I am trying to
load it in Office 2003 which I am not sure if this will
affect the outcome or not at this point.

Thanks

Is it asking you for a password or just telling you that you don't have
permission to view the file? They are different errors. If it's the no
permission thing, did you back it up on a CD? If so, you can't open a PST
file from a CD. You need to copy the PST file to your computer, right click
on it, choose Properties, clear the Read Only checkbox, and click Ok.

I did exactly the same thing today with the same result. Have you had any
success getting access to your .pst
