Everytime we turn around my kids are conversing using
messangers or otherwise using my internet connection. We
would like to limit this activity by password protecting
the internet connection from their compter.

The kids computer is connected to mine by lan. The dial up
is on my computer. Can I set things up so the kids can use
their computer without a password and only be prompted
when they request an internet connection through mine?
Idealy, my computer would not require a password to
connect so I wouldn't be bothered each time I connect.

I've never used any security on any of my systems so I'm
pretty ignorant. Please be as detailed as possible in your
directions.

No way to password protect this if they're just connecting across the
network and you are hosting the connection using ICS....You could unplug
your modem, but that would prevent you from accessing the Internet, of
course - perhaps you can just disable ICS and enable it when they ask (and
you approve)?

Bill,

Just disable the sharing of your Internet connection from your PC.
So your kids machines will only be able to connect when you want them too by
re-enabling the sharing of the Internet connection
See
Start ... Help and Support and search for Internet Connection Sharing
for how to turn it on and off.
