I have a folder on my Windows XP SP1 PC that contains may
private files. I use this folder to keep some of my bank
info, as well as my password list. I currently have it
hidden deep in phony directory, but I'm worried that one
of the other users of this PC might stumble onto it and
use the information for malicious purposes. I'm afraid
that if someone does a search or looks in the recent
document that will see my password list and then have
unlimited access to it without my knowledge. Is there
anyway to Password protect this folder so you would need a
password to open it.

Thanks for the help!

In windows xp( and nt based os's) you don't password protect anymore. You
use file security and permissions to allow or deny a user access to files or
folders.
Are you using XP home or XP Pro?

Adam -
Google up the program "Shellcrypt". It will password
protect either files or folders the way you want.

there are 2 very good progams to do what you want.
hide folders xp works very well and the folders/files are
not visible in safe mode.
the other one is ft knox,it works very much the same,
they both are password protected.

In windows xp( and nt based os's) you don't password protect anymore. You
use file security and permissions to allow or deny a user access to files or
folders.
In xp pro open explorer. Goto: tools, folder options, view tab, uncheck: use
simple file sharing.
Now right click on the folder/file, properties, security tab. Set allow or
deny as you like for the user you want to deny or allow.
