My 7 year old has changed the password on her computer
and it has now become inaccessible.

When it is turned on, it boots up, Windows loads, then
asks for a password, and I haven't been able to figure
out whether or not this is something I can bypass.

So far I have not been able to get pass this user
password, and she has been unable to use her computer.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jeff

You don't say if you're running XP Home or Pro.

For Pro, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the Welcome Screen. You'll get the old Win2K style login. Enter Administrator and any password that you may have set on this account at install, if any, at install.

For XP Home, you must boot the computer into Safe Mode. Press the F8 key between the BIOS POST Screen and Windows actually beginning to load. You'll get a start up menu. Choose Safe Mode and you'll see the Administrator account on the Welcome Screen.

Jeff,

If you find the solution, let me know. My 14 year old
did the same thing. One IT guy I've talked to used some
colorful language to tell me I'm "out of luck."

This is on my son's Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. Dell sent
instructions to take off the back and remove the PSWD
jumper. Of course, so far that's been impossible to
find, and neither my user's guide or the system guide
manual online give directions on how to get to it.

Good luck. I hope we both find answers here.

If its a Windows password its easy to get by. I'll post the name of
the software I use after I get a chance to look it up. Its basically
a linux utility that blanks out the password in NT/2000/XP.
