I know, I know, this is an XP board and not an ME board. It's just that I
know it will take forever and a day to get my question answered on the ME
board so I am going to try it here. All help appreciated.
************************************************

Using an Emachine running ME, when I boot up I thought I was password
protected. But I just noticed that the "type in a password and username to
log on" has a "cancel" button on it which allows anyone to bypass my
password. How do I get this pc to the point that anyone wanting to boot it up
has to enter a password and does not have the option to "cancel"? All help
appreciated.

Upgrade to a secure operating system?
(Seriously.)

The log-on password in Windows 95, 98 & Me just configured the desktop to the user. It never
stopped anyone from using the computer. There are 3rd party programs that will let you lock other
out, but for your case, why not go in the BIOS System setup and put a password in there. Except for
someone who can open the computer, that password requirement will keep them out. But don't forget
the password.

I can assure you that your query would have been aswered quickly in the
ME group and in the future you should post your ME questions there.
There are some very helpful folks who actively monitor the groups and
the folks there know ME inside out!
