Frank,

From the amount of detail that you've provided, the best answer is "maybe". If
you could provide some more detail, a better answer might be possible.

Or, you can read about file sharing, and all of the possibilities.

I'm sorry, but Windows XP doesn't have passwords for shared disks and
folders the way that Windows 95, 98, and Me do.

In Windows XP Professional, you can disable "simple file sharing" and
define access control lists that specify user names and their allowed
mode of access. Ron Lowe and I have written a web page with details
of this very powerful and flexible feature:

Thanks for all replies.
I have seen this website before, (there are other problems with this link
in this newsgroup regarding "sharing and password") - and read it. It is very
good and helpfull site (and "nitecruzr" too - a link from other reply). We
have 15 comp. on LAN ( 1x WIN XP PRO - my PC, and 14x WIN9*,ME) and I want to
have access to one shared folder of my PC from LAN. And I don't want to
create 14 user accounts. Still I need to have access to this folder only for
me, but from all station. I put on "guest" account a password, but the
access to my PC from LAN was denied. (maybe I need to log on the station as a
user "guest" with password. That means restart Win 98 PC station and log on
as different user. So far, I didn't try all oportunities to manage it. I
want this access to be as easy as possible. Some suggestions? Thank You.

You only need one user account: the one that you use to log onto the
XP Pro computer.

Log onto each of the WIN9* and ME computers using the same user name
and password as your XP Pro account.
