password echo

Does anybody know a tweak for Windows that will make password entries
echo normally? I am the sole user on my computer and I don't need
passwords to be concealed.

Herb,
If you are not worried about anybody seeing something that they shouldn't be
seing, then you can go into Start>Settings>Control Panel>User Accounts and
change your password. You can make it so that all you have to do is press
"Enter" without entering a pssword.

If you have potential outsiders (kids, grandkids) that you want to keep out
of your files, then I would just use a simple password that only has a few
letters in it. As for your question, I do not know of a way to "Tweak"
Windows (or any other pasword screen, for that matter) to echo the letters.
Those asterisks mean that what you are typing is encrypted and cannot be
decyphered, even if you find the password storage file on the hard drive.

Believe he wants to see the actual password as he types it, instead of
*********

He also wants them to be visible at any time when he has to refer to a
password

As I can see no sane reason at all for wanting this, it seems to me that he
wants to collect passwords on a computer that may not, in fact, be his.

Maybe he could change his password to nine asterisks? Problem solved!

The edit box that you type your password in is set to only echo back
asterisks by the person who wrote the program. There is no tweak to echo
back the password.

Thanks to all for your input. I guess the reason I wanted to see the
passwords when I entered them might seem trivial. It's a bother not to
be able to see typos and have to re-enter. This is particularly
significant because one of my terminals uses an onscreen keyboard
which misfires ocasionally if I am not deft enough with the stylus. Of
course, many sites allow stored passwords to pop up automatically. But
many I use regularly do not. I guess I should have also asked if it is
possible to overide this and always allow automatic password pop-up. I
spent some time trying to research this problem on the web, mostly with
Google searches. I was not able to find anything. But imagine my
surprise when I came here to look at responses and found the Google
sponsored links to the right that may solve my problem! These didn't
show up when I searched on the Google search site. Oh well! Thanks
again. I think I have a direction now.
 
Now that you have given a reason why, I can tell you that there are ways
around this operating system safety measure. Among others, Norton
SystemWorks includes a module, called Norton Password Manager, that will
fill in a password for you, assuming that you allow it to record the
original password entry into it's database when you first type the password
for that web site.

Google for others. I am certain they are out there.

But if you have a lot of sites requiring a password (and who doesn't!?)
you gotta buy the full version.

I'd be dead without it.
