Password command line switch ppViewer

I would like to password protect powerpoint shows and then launch from a menu
program into Power point viewer. Is there a command line switch I can use to
do this? Thanks for any advice on this. (e-mail address removed)
 
You can't password protect presentations in versions earlier than 2002. Earlier
versions of PowerPoint cannot open them. You might look here for an alternative.

I'm not sure which you are asking - - how to apply a password, or how to launch
the protected presentations from a menu program? You can apply a modify
password in PowerPoint 2002 or 2003. You can run a presentation with a modify
password in the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer. If your menu is just another
presentation, you can link to the other presentations. If the menu presentation
is running in the Viewer, when the links are clicked, the other presentations
will also run in the Viewer. So, the trick is to launch the menu in the Viewer.
That can be done with the command line:

...\path\pptview.exe ..\path\menu.ppt

As I read it, the request is along the lines of:

How do I launch a password protected presentation in the viewer from the
command line.

IOW, is there a commandline switch that can hand the password along to the
viewer.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't.
As far as you're aware, as far as the viewer, I'm not aware very far.

I was looking for a simple command line swith to pass the password along to
the powerpoint viewer, so I could password protect the shows then launch
them thru a menu in a learning program.

I guess there is not an easy way to do that. Thanks again for all the
feedback.

And I see that neither of us understood the question.

However, the Viewer is a viewer, not a modifier, and doesn't care if a modify
password has been assigned. It will open the file without complaint. If it's
an "open" password, then the Viewer does require that the password be entered,
but in that instance it doesn't make sense to assign an "open" password and then
pass it thru the command line.
 
You can assign a "Modify" password to the presentation and it will not be
necessary to pass if to the Viewer. Since the Viewer has no modification
capability, it will open the presentation without the password. If you've
assigned an "Open" password, the Viewer requires that the password be provided
and there is no way to send it via the command line. It has to be typed into
the Viewer's dialog by the user.

The viewer only displays presentations. It can't modify or save them.
Password protecting the presentation would require saving it, so what you want
to do simply can't be done.
