Partitions Questions

Just built a new system and am trying to partition the
40GHD with a 4G OS partition only. That partition works
and leaves me with a 36G to partition that also works.
Now the problem, after partitioning, it says I still have
8M still to be partitioned. What is this and where did it
come from? How can I utilize this space? I tried
different ratios but OS still leaves me with the 8M extra
 
You cant. Its a drive geomtry issue that leaves that 8MB, it will always be
there.
