PartitionMagic vs Partition Commander

VIACOM offers now its new Partition Commander claiming that it can do much
more then Partition Magic. Switching to VIACOM gadget is tempting since I'm
trying to get rid of any Symantec/Norton leftovers from my system
(PartitionMagic was bought by Symantec).
Does someone had used both and have any opinion about those gadget - how
they really compare to each other?

All Symantec did with PartitionMagic was rebrand it...they did not use
that opportunity to bugger it up. It does everything that I want and
more so not really interested in V-COM's product ATM. I would be more
tempted by Acronis' Disk Director Suite myself.

Symantec not only rebranded PM but also issued own update to v. 8.5. This
makes me suspicious... On surface not much changed, but behind... Live
Update, for example...

PartitionMagic does not use liveupdate and the update that Symantec
produced is the same one that PowerQuest produced.

They are identical apart from the Symantec branding...I have used
both.

As far as I can tell, Symantec is letting Partition Magic die.
Recently, my Partition Magic 8.0 has been having trouble with some
Linux partitions. PM thinks there are errors and cannot provide any
information about the partition. I bought Paragon's Partition Manager
8.0. It does everything PM does and more and has no trouble with any
Linux partition.

Good luck, jimbo

Thanks for another tip. I was afraid myself that Symantec will let PM go.

So far they haven't messed with it. And as long as I can keep it I will. It
is now the only Symantec owned product that they have left alone.

Unfortunately, or fortunately ;-) that is what they always do, let an
acquisition die. Winfax Pro, Wincom Pro, Norton Utils the list is
endless...things that they don't update which really need updating.

I have acquired some 'complementary' (cough, cough) copies of Symantec
software and won't have the crap on my PC.

I agree with you. But so far PM 8.05 is still ok. And if I don't upgrade to
Vista I won't have to get rid of PM.

I successfully partitioned my h/d with PM and installed Vista.
