i have windows xp on my laptop with 20 gb harddisk..
i just want to create a patiton on my harddisk of 15 gb
and 5 gb..how can i do that...pls give the step by step
procedure

There is no way I know of to do it without an aftermarket
application. I use Partition Magic 8 on my machine. It
allows me to create, delete, and resize partitions non
destructively (it doesn't erase data). It's a great
program, but a bit pricey at $70. If you're willing to
part with the money, it'll do the job for you easily.

Jason.

I have PM 8 but my partitions ( they are now 4) or the new ones i try to
create will not be shown in explorer. Any idea why??

Besides improperly quoting you also seem to be ignoring earlier answers to
your previous questions...but who cares?

You need to format them with disk management (for new ones). Also you
need to assign drive letters, and not have those letters hidden by
TweakuiXP (or other methods).

Assuming that you want to do this without losing what's already
on your drive, there's no way to do this with native Windows
facilities. It requires third-party software such as Partition
Magic or Bootit Next Generation.

Some things:

The letters may be hidden from explorer, but the drives available -
check at Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk
Management and look lower right for the graphic of the drive. If you
see the graphic of partitions, and they *have* letters assigned, then
Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Use its My Computer - Drives page and ensure all the letters are
checked.

If there are no letters shown, and the partitions described as 'Healthy
- Unknown', then the partitions may have been created Hidden. Older
versions of DOS/Windows tended to have only a single primary partition
allowed to be visible, the one booted and PM may be following that by
default. If this is the case run PM again, highlight the partitions and
look in the menus for an Unhide.

Note that there is a limit of four 'primary' partitions on any disk,
which you have now used up. If you were to want more, you should remove
one and replace it by an Extended Partition, containing one or more
'logical drives' or 'volumes'
