I have a USB connected hard disc with 4 partitions on it. Until
recently everything has been fine with it. Yesterday, when I connected the
disc, Explorer failed to show one of the partitions. Looking at "Disc
Management", the partition is shown there. Also I noticed that on another
utility the partition is shown in a strange form. The name was given as :-

Partition_name{44cb9163-45b1........}

ie there is some sort of type attached to the name. What can I do
about this so that the partition will appear properly in Explorer?

sometimes a partition can be seen again by exploring it via the
diskmanagment console.
The other thing I have discovered is that some softwares tag
partitions for syncronzing, assuming you had installed
somekind of syncronization program, like BeInSnyc.

The only way I have been able to resolve the hijacking
is to move the files off the partition, then delete that partition and
create it again.

I was Afraid that was going to be the answer. ie Delete and recreate the
partition. Trouble is that I have some large archives on that partition, so
I was hoping something else would be suggested!

yeh,
you probably will

But it might not be a bad idea to begin making copies of the archives,
because I could be wrong about the hijacking and instead the
partition may be degrading for some other reason and this is
your first clue....

Probably wouldn't hurt to find somekind
of analysis tool to check out the partition. But again, I would
urgently make a copy of the archives before doing anything
else, just in case...

wait n see what others can say about this too

I use acronis disk director to manage my partitions,
so i'm a little rusty about manually addressing
partition issues.

But if you don't have a partition manager, you probably
should get one - they come in pretty handy...

I found this site while trying to refresh my knowledge
about partitions. I'm not recommending the software
but it provides some insight as to what issues can affect
a partition....

hope this helps....

No, No drive letter. Also I noticed under properties from the Disc
Management display of the partitions on that disc, that the partition was
NOT noted as a "Local Disc"!
