I bought a new pc with xp installed and I have my old disk, I installed windows 98 on the second disk, and both worked separately, the problem first was that I modified boot.ini to show a menu to choose, like the boot managers,it kept working with xp but did not work with w98 I had to boot 98 from the bios quick boot utility, since that was not a great idea, I decided to use power quest boot magic and it said that because I had two systems one in each disk It was necessary to check a setting wich said "advanced partition hiding", well, once installed it worked only once, allowing me to boot 98 and xp, but when I tried next only 98 worked and xp didn't and after that the partition holding xp and the data was gone. Only on the sytem recovery cd was visible and the important data was ok but not accesible via explorer, so my question( finally is) is there some way that I can set it active again, (since the manager utility doesn't let me tough) or is there some way to save my data from the partition? Is it a good idea to use disk managers like paragon or partition magic?Â

If someone can help me solve the problem, It shall receive my eternal gratitude

On which OS did you install PM? It is definitely NOT to be used on XP & is
not included in the XP compatible Powerquest package.
Possibly that's where you went wrong.

Also, '98 must be the pri. OS and XP the second, using the '98 boot.ini to
dual boot.
