I notice that when I back up my partitions sometimes I have to reinstall a
couple programs. When I look at the compressed backup it has all the files
and registry entries that the original has. Upon restoring I see all the
appropriate files but the programs says to reinstall because necessary files
are unavailable. Does anyone know why this would be happening and should I
save something else during the backup so I don't have to reinstall the same
two programs.(In this case it is Pinnacle Studio 9 and Zinio Magazine
Reader).

What backup software are you using? Does it support partion imaging?

Does these programs install files somewhere else than in their own
directory? If they do, have you restored those files also?
(Of course assuming you're not doing full backup/restore of the partition?)
