parenthesis and apostrophe key

I have struggled with this "and 'key since getting office 2007. It works
differently to the old word and I dont like it. The "and the 'do not act
like letters and require space key insertion. Is there a way to change this
or fiddle with the way it works. Basically, I want the "and the ' to act
like they did in word 03-07
 
You have enabled an international keyboard layout in which the ' key acts as
a "dead key" for accented letters. Change the keyboard layout to English
(U.S.) or (U.K.) to solve the problem.
