Parallel XP Installation

I am not sure why, but my computer will not boot up. It shut off
unexpectedly the other day while booting and now it will not boot. It
brings up the "safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc..." screen
each time it boots. No matter whether I choose safe mode or normal
startup or last good configuration, it only goes so far, restarts, and
brings up the same screen. I am not sure why this is happening.
However, a few years ago I had a similar problem and emailed Microsoft
about it. They gave me instructions on how install a parallel version
of XP on my system and then recover the information that was under the
first installation by copying it to the new installation. I do not
remember the exact process. Can anyone help me out? I desperately do
not want to lose any information that is currently on the computer by
reformatting and starting over. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I tried that to no avail. It starts the process and then I get the blu
screen/white writing error with a bunch of numbers and letters. What
am looking to do is a parallel installation. I did it a few years ag
and installed a parallel version of windows then extracted all of th
files under the old version to the new version. Then, after I ha
everything I needed saved to disk, I reformatted and started over wit
a clean install. That is what I am looking to do this time around, bu
I do not remember the whole process and Microsoft now charges for thei
tech support help (they didn't used to).

Thanks. Do you have any idea now where I can find information on
extracting the files from the old installation to the new one?
