how do get rid of that annoying paper clip "helper"? thanks

While the paper clip is visible click on the Options button. One of the
choices will be to "Use the Office Assistant" Uncheck that and you should
be good to go. The help files indicate that this only works for the
current session but that isn't my experience. Seems to work until someone
calls the assistant on purpose :-\. Apparently, you can get rid of it
permanently by uninstalling Access (or Office, depending on how you
originally installed) then re-install. Seems that when you are asked what
components you wish to install, you can de-select Office Assistant and it
won't be installed at all. Seems pretty hardcore but, hey, if it bothers
you... Search Help for Office Assistant for details. BTW, you didn't
mention your version. This works for A2K. Can't say about others.
