Hi, my dad just bought a new computer from Dell and he is complaining to me
that every time he sends out or receives an email, there is a paper clip
icon on the email suggesting an attachment. The icon is there whether or
not an attachment has been put on the email. He usually gets an email back
from his friends asking where the attachment is. He has asked me how to
stop this from happening, but I am at a loss... Anyone have any ideas? He
is running WindowsXP Professional and has SP2...

What mailer is he using.
What is shown as the identity of the attachment - TNEF ?

He is using Outlook Express and I downloaded AVG Free for him to use as his
antivirus software. I also use AVG and have had no problems...

AVG 7 maybe....??

Open AVG control Centre, Click on E-Mail Scanner. On "plugins" click
"configure".... take the tick out of "certify mail".

For reasons that boggle the mind, the good folks at Grisoft have decided to
add the little blurb: "This message checked by AVG...." by means of an
attachment. So every mail you receive and send in AVG7 has the certification
attachment on it. In order to stop freaking people out you go to the Control
Center, double click on Personal Email Scanner, Configure Button, and cancel
the certify option for both incoming and outgoing mail.
