Newbie, I have never tried to use my PAINT before, but I see have the same
problem.
The text feature appears to have been disabled - permanently.
Don't take my word for it, but...
I went to Paint Help, and it said to click on View, then Zoom, then Normal
View, but Normal View was greyed out!
Not sure if MS sells a "full" version of paint, but it appears that we may
not have the full version with our Windows XP.

When in Normal view, Normal View menu is greyed out. When in something
other than Normal View, Normal View menu is not greyed out.

Based on quick experimentation, it seems that it is only possible to use
the Text Tool when in Normal View.

You have the full version of Paint. There is only one version. Try
again. I think you will find it works.

Thanks Dana
I use Paint frequently but not on this machine. I just
checked my desktop here at work, and "text toolbar" is
greyed out but checked. On that machine I can't turn the
toolbar off!! Ain't computers wonderful??

OK, OK, I think I have found it.
In Normal view, click the letter "A" in the grid on the left, next to the
spray paint can.
Then, click on the white area, and the text toolbar will appear.
Magical, isn't it?

Thank you for your helpful suggestion.

I think I found the answer. First, you can only enter text
when you are in "Normal". If you click the text icon,
click on the drawing, then click on "View", "Text Toolbar"
is not greyed out and you can check or uncheck it.
Computers are wonderful!!
