Paid for someone to run this worm???

Not to name any names, but hey has anyone, besides myself, thought about the
fact that maybe a certain company or companies paid someone to create this
worm. Think about it, how many people are scurrying to buy firewall and
anti virus software right now? And, how many people are all of a sudden
dependant on the Firewall that is built into XP after being told for months
now that it isn't even a safe firewall to begin with? How many times have
you heard, "download all of the security fixes that come out", and how many
people do you think will "NOT" do that now? How many support people are
making a killing off of this situation?

Sounds like a darn good scam all around to me!!! Maybe a certain governing
body is behind this?

Maybe its an inside job :-)

They had to get their backdoor into everybodies' computer, and the scare
tactics weren't working to get everbody to download the patch. Why do
you think the worm was coded to attack the old address for WinUpdate?

I am one of those people who has been saying "download all of the security
fixes that come out" and "Keep Norton Antivirus updated!" and "Use Norton
Internet Security or ZoneAlarm if you are on in the Internet".

Well, I am fine, but it is great to see how many people followed my advice.

I have seen a number of junk mail messages looking to profit off this whole
mess. I agree, it is convenient. I suppose I have a lighter view on this,
because I keep updating! :-)
 
It's good enough to have prevented the MSblast worm! Even Steve Gibson's
Website says it's good.

Yes, and Steve's ShieldsUp claims that I have an open port that is
demonstrably shut. How do I know it is closed? By the log of the number
of attempted accesses through it, especially over the past few days. I'd
take quite a bit of what he says quite cautiously.

Well I don't have any of that over priced FUDWARE installed on any
of my PC's and I am fine. Of course my Linux and Windows PC's
are patched and updated and I am setup behind a quality firewall.
 
Where were *your* kids on August 11th? Word going around among the
professionals is that this was the work of mischievous teenagers. Little
brats !!

George, get a life. They have reported that about 350,000 (people?)
have gotten the Worm. Lets see thats leave what 2 Billion computer users
that didn't get it. Now why would a company pay anybody for such a Worm
that hasn't affected 1% of the world. I suggest you sell your computer
and buy a play station. But first read the manual! :-(

However, would he not need to buy the Playstation in order to get the
manual in order to read same?

Reminds me of Apple several years ago: On some model(s), you had to
unpack several layers of "whatever" in the packing carton in order to
get to the instructions on how to unpack the carton.

I've got a life and a playstation 2 :-) I guess it must be against the
rules to think out loud around here? BTW, I didn't get hit neither but sure
have been working on a lot of PCs that didn't, thank you!!! Read, how do
you do that...is it on the computer because I don't read......unless it is
on my PC ;-) and I sure hope it is bit and bytes so I can understand
it.....how did you know about the helicopter anyway????? You guys are
freaking me out!!!!!

It could be the work of teenagers. Until charges have been laid,
though I see no reason to make that assumption. This might be a plot
to lure the culprit out of hiding, screaming "No, it wasn't a
teenager, you fools! IT WAS ME!!!"
 
It's "Just because you aren't paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get
