Paging File PROBLEMS -- Hard Drive now FULL

Please Help!
Toshiba Satellite A25-S208
Paging File problems (error message on booting) for weeks
I've tried everything and still keep getting the message
Meanwhile, my 40GB Hard Drive went from 69% Free Space to less than 1
GB :'[
I have googled and read a lot from others with similar problems, but
VERY apprehensive of trying some of this intensive repair/changes that
I'm not qualified to do!! I need advice and guidance for my specific
case.
I'm terrified of having a crash and LOSING a lot of files/pictures,
etc.
I only know enough to get myself in trouble and generally make things
worse --

I do this regularly, but never Windows temp files. I found a lot of
copies and copies of copies from recent activities re paging files in
there which I deleted. Gained a few MB. Still can't defrag as
there's just no free space. I know there has to be a way to delete
all this new stuff that suddenly filled up my hard drive, but I can't
figure out how.

Thanks for the tip about the temp files. It helped a bit to buy me
some time...

Try using the built in Windows Search utility, Start/Search/All Files and
Folders, then click on the 'When was it modified' pulldown.
Next click on Specify Dates option, change the Modified Date pulldown to
Created Date, specify a From and To date range and see what files have been
recently created after the search has completed. You may need to go into the
search windows View/Choose details option to add the Creation date to the
displayed results.

This might give you a clue as to what's going on.
