Paging file problem at startup

When I start up XP Home and click on my account icon it hangs up on me. I will either get an error message telling me there is no paging file set up or I have to use control-alt-delete to get to the desktop. But then it usually runs slow and has other problems. I have followed the direction for the paging file/memory problem but when I make the changes it tells me to reboot and when it starts up again it does the same thing... Does anyone have an idea what I can do? I re-installed XP with the clean install option and it still did it at the first boot....

Hi,

I'm trying to change the permissions for the administrators following the directions in the article you refrenced but for some reason I can't get my computer to boot in safe mode. Pressing F8 at anytime in boot up has no affect...

You can also boot in safe mode by going to Start > Run > msconfig
boot.ini tab and checking 'safeboot,' and then rebooting.
After you have done your troubleshooting, don't forget to uncheck that
option to boot in normal mode.

Good luck
