Hi,
I"m using an updated IE6sp1 and noticing a very annoying delay or
hesitation when loading web pages. When I type in an address and click go the
status bar tells me "opening page". From the time I click and the time the
web page starts loading there is a 5-7 second delay. After the 5-7 sec. delay
the page loads fine.
Is there anyway of minimizing this annoying delay?

Hi,
Some steps to take:
Clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50-60 MB (Settings.)

Try disabling autocomplete from Internet Options> Content> Autocomplete. If
that speeds things up, delete the History folder using the appropriate (for
your OS) method at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Check for malware:
Download and run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Also note the security tips and other important information on that page.

Hi,
Thanks Don for the suggestions. I empty the TIF, cookies and history files
regularly. I also scan my computer for nasties, on a daily basis. All is
clean.
I must add that during the 7 second delay, "finding website, downloading
website, and finally opening page" is displayed in the staus bar. It looks to
me that there is a slight problem finding or converting the websites IP
address. Please, Correct me if I'm wrong. I've been reading that it could be
a DNS problem which might be causing this delay.

Hi,
Your ISP may be having DNS problems. What's your connection to the internet?
Cable, DSL, dialup?

Which version of Windows?

DSL (versalink router) with windows ME.
According to Verizon there is no problems with their servers.

I followed these instructions>> WinME users that need to delete the
Temporary Internet Files via http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm and
when I rebooted, the Temp folder in the windows directory did not recreate.
Can I recreate this folder by right clicking and creating a new Temp folder???

Insert your WinMe bootdisk and restart. Select: "Minimal" from the menu
From A:\> (type and press Enter after each command)

C:
cd\windows
smartdrv
deltree tempor~1
deltree history
deltree temp

Remove the bootdisk and restart (Ctrl-Alt-Del)

Hi,
It wouldn't hurt to delete the TIF and History folders. See:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Speedy,

I had a similar problem, though in my case it was always an 8 second delay
before the page finally displayed. Not sure what OS you are using - I am
using WinXP, Svc Pak 2. I found a fix on the WinXPCentral site - go to
Services, and set the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service to a
startup type of Manual and reboot. This fixed the problem on the two
machines that were having the problem.

Thanks GJ,
I am using windows Me.

Hi,
Well... using deltree to delete the Temp folder should be safe and
effective. The practice has been around for a long time. Maybe the Temp
folder will be recreated when a program needs it?

Let me know if it doesn't reappear soon. I'll call in help.

Thanks Don,
I posted about the Temp folder in Windows Me (general), and Mr. Heirloom
responded with a simple right click and create new "Temp" folder. Thanks...

Hi,
I'm glad Heirloom got you fixed up. I should have done more research on
