Pagefile.SYS Bizarre Case

To follow history, find the thread pagefile.sys MISSING.

Here is what I've discovered. I downloaded a program called readntfs at
www.ntfs.com. This created a boot disk which would start the computer in DOS
and read/recover deleted files on an NTFS disk.

While doing a Directory scan, discovered that PAGEFILE.SYS is listed in the
NTFS boot directory, although ATTRIB, DIR, and everything else imaginable
says it doesn't exsist on my system.

Is there a way to delete the name from the BOOT directory?

It some how only exists in the NTFS Boot Directory listing.

1. I am not going to hunt for anything to see the history of your post.

2. By default the pagefile.sys file is in the root of C: (or whatever
partition you have XP installed on).

Thanks for the reply.

The reality is while it is there...and when loading in DOS it can be seen
using a NTFS read program, Windows won't recognize it, so I can't delete it,
change it, or do anything with it.

I understand your not wanting to research all that went before.

OK, here we go again. As I mentioned in my last reply in the old
and worn-out thread, there are methods to delete locked files
from an NTFS partition:

- Buy ntfsdos.com from www.sysinternals.com.
- Temporarily install the disk as a slave disk in some other WinXP/2000 PC.
- Boot the machine with a Bart PE CD (www.bootdisk.com). You
need a CD burner and a WinXP Professional CD (but no licence
number).

The last one is my favourite optiion. It is a terrific tool that
I always carry in my tool kit.
