I am using WORD to write a book. Each chapter has a file of its own. It is
important that each of the files or chapters be setup exactly alike.
However, for one of the files, I go in and change the paragraph settings,
save the document, and when I return, the settings are not there.

That is, I highlight all of the text in the file or document and right click
and select paragraph. I make my settings there, close the document by
saving it and when I return, the settings are all blank. What gives? What
can I do to insure that each documents gets setup in exactly the same way?

Thank You

Not sure what is going on.

First, use Styles to format things. http://addbalance.com/usersguide/styles

Second, base your chapters on the same template that has styles set the way
you want. That way they will all have the same formatting.

Third, if you need to change the formatting in all of your chapters, you can
change the style in the template.

Then, in each document, use Tools > Templates and Add-Ins and check the box
to update styles from the template. Normally you want to leave this box
unchecked. I would advise that after you update the styles, you go back and
uncheck it. I suspect that you may have left this box checked.
