I'm having a problem with page numbers. I've read all the posts and still
can't get anything to work. I've been in headers & footers and have selected
the 'Slide Number' and 'Apply to all' for the Slide tab.

I've also gone into Master > Slide Master > Format > Master Layout, and all
are checked, although they're grayed out. Could that be the problem?

Any help greatly appreciated.

All you need to do is to click "View", "Header and Footer". You should see
three small rectangles at the bottom of the slide image. If the item is
checked it will have a dark border around it. If it isn't checked, it will
have a lighter border around it. Click a few on and off to see what I mean.

Keep in mind that if you have images on your slides that are on top of the
bottom right location (normal location for slide numbering), the numbers
won't show. Is this the case? If so, instead of inserting your images on
your slide, you can make them the background of the slide ("Format",
"Background", click dropdown arrow, select "Fill Effects", click the
"Picture" TAB, and browse to and select your image.

Hi d'oug ...

To help, we'd have to know what the problem IS. You'll have to share. ;-)
