You can do this but is this a specific page number or range of pages you
want suppressed? We need some more details of what you are trying to achieve
please.

How do I suppress a page number in the middle of a long
document?

Thanks, K.

I'm working on a book and want to suppress the page
numbers for each new chapter page. In total I want to
suppress 9 page numbers, but they are not contiguous.

Thanks for your help,

Karen

The easiest way to do this is to insert a Next Page section break between
chapters, then use the "Different first page" setting (Layout tab of Page
Setup) to give you a separate First Page Header/Footer, from which you omit
the page number. Actually, I like to put running heads ("Different odd and
even") on all pages but the first and a centered page number in the footer
(drop folio) of all pages, but many books have a drop folio on the first
page of the chapter and the page number in the running heads on the other
pages.

To take Suzanne's solution even further...

Follow her guide using the different first page option and omit the page
number field from the first page footer. Then use the StyleRef field in your
header (except for the first page header) and Word will automatically pick
up the Chapter Heading style without you having to enter it. Very neat and
very simple.
