page numbering problem with fields

Since i have updated my microsoft word from automatic updates my INSERT PAGE
NUMBER or HEADER/FOOTER actions have been impaired by the "field codes".
Every time I click insert page number I get : {PAGE} and it will not update
the page number in the subsequent pages if I replace {PAGE} with the actual
page number. The same goes with Author name, or date. It just will not update
to the actual page number, author, date, etc...

I have tried to fix it with the Help option but I have been unsuccesful...
Anyone knows what I can do to fix this?
 
Press Alt+F9 to toggle the field display.
