Dear all
Forgive my ignorance, but I just upgraded to Word 2003 Student&Teacher edition and no longer see the active page number in the lower toolbar (bottom of the window) as I did in previous versions. None of the Microsoft articles has been helpful, because they all focus on page numbers within the document as opposed to the window itself. I find it extremely frustrating to have to scroll within the document to see what page I'm on. If you understand my problem, please let me know if I'm missing something completely obvious
Humbly, Jodief1

Do you have the status bar displayed (Tools | Options | View)? Are you in
Print Layout view? Page numbers are not displayed in Web Layout view and may
be suppressed in Normal view.

Thanks, you were right about the status bar. I suspected it was something silly, though I still think the attributes of the status bar (like the display of page numbers) should be searchable so that morons like me can get an answer without having to ask y'all
thanks again.
