Help !
My computer always runs like its rpm is high. Page file use is high. I even
stopped running McAfee and SpySweeper and it still runs high.

How much RAM memory?Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task
Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit
Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

How large is your hard drive and how much free space?

If I had to make a guess, he doesn't have enough memory installed and
the system is thrashing the pagefile because of all the programs he has
open.

Well, maybe, but thrashing has no effect on the rpm of the drive. I always
prefer not to guess, but to hear from him what his problem is. I don't want
to waste my time trying to solve what may turn out not to be his problem.

Seems a reasonable position to me!

Total commit charge is 418812
Limit is 502824
Peak is 635944

sorry it took me so long to get to this. thanks for helping

I was just trying to make an awkward analogy to an engine revving at high RPM.
Page File Use seems to always be high no matter what applications are
showing, even none.
Sorry to bother you on this... maybe I just need more memory after all...
This is an older model and I have upgraded my IE and use Windows OneCare
Live now. I've tried to limit spyware detection, antivirus to see if that
makes any difference.

Another angle is to examine the extent to which the system uses
the page file.

Another small utility to monitor pagefile usage:

However, graphics and camera related programmes will bump
up page file usage.

Both Norton and McAfee are infamous for creating performance issues
on computers. You might consider AVG. A change definitely helps with
your system performance. Lower overheads.
