Page File or Swap File Question

Mike

I have (3) partitions on my computer and the "Pagefile" or "Swap File"
is located on my "C" partition. I have 512 mb of ram and the "Page
File" has been allocated a minimum of approx 728 mb and a max of
approx 1400mb.

I could use that extra space on my "C" partition and my question is:
Could I set the "Page File" to my "D" partition where there is more
space without compromising my computer's performance.

Thanks, Mike

Sometimes moving the swap file to another partition will increase system
performance.

Before you move it chkdsk and defrag the target drive.

Moving it to another partition is more likely to decrease
performance slightly, since that moves it farther away from the
commonly-used files on the drive, and thereby increases head
movement to and from it.

Moving it another *physical* drive can improve performance (since
that decreases head movement), if there's substantial page file
use.

Additionally, if you are going to move the swap file to a different HD,
make sure it spins up faster than the original. This too will increase
performance
