every three minutes my page minimizes and goes to the desktop. Im using XP
with an Athlon 2700 with AdAware and SpywareBlaster

Have you used MS Antispyware Beta version yet? If not use it first
because it is more secure and reliable than any free crap you get from
the net! Also, it is the fastest scanner I have ever come across thus
far. It updates almost daily!

I have been running a Full System scan with the MS Antispyware beta,
almost daily for the last two months. It has not caught anything till
now. If I run AdAware SE or Spybot-SD afterwards, they often detect and
help remove a few spyware items.
I am mystified by the praise showered on the MS product by several
people on this Forum!

You need to run a full system scan. This means change the options first
so that it does deep file scan as well on all the files in your system.

I praise MS because they have nothing to gain by giving us a free tool
but others have hidden agendas which I can't spell out on this public
website. There is nothing called free lunch on this planet. We have
paid enough for MS products and also, MS products are widely scrutinised
by its competitors and critics while this is not the case with other
fringe free products.

I agree with both of u...
I run both adaware SE and MS antispyware in my computer and I run that in
safe mode every day.Adaware picks up things that MS misses but MS Antispyware
gives my computer real time protection and informes me if anything tries to
change the settings of my computer.

I said "Full System scan" in my post of Nov 2, 10:00 am.
What I want to know is whether I am the only person having this
negative experience with MS anti-spyware Beta.

What utter BS - MS is only giving you a free BETA product in hopes that
you won't stop using Windows due to all of the malware targeted at it.
If they eventually provide it as a RTM product for free, it will only be
to make up for all the malware they let be installed on your OS to start
with.

Yea, sure, you post as Anonymous, then say you can post something in
public, but, you can and would if you had any real information.

AntiSpyware vendors provide FREE versions of their software in order to
get us to want to purchase their paid versions which have more/better
features. It's the old loss-leader type thing, nothing sinister about
it.

You keep believing that.

I feel comfortable in suspecting that when MS Antispyware
goes live, MS will "offer" its MS Antispyware beta testers a
one-time rebate of say, $20, off its MS Antispyware V 1.0's
$59-$79 retail price. Uncle Bill giveth; and then he taketh away.

Ms Antispyware will remain free for home - non commercial users.
Commercial users will get it bundled with their corporate licences.

So indirectly, MS antispyware will remain free! We have to to see this
happening from next January. Bt that time major players such as
symantec, McAffee, F-Secure etc would have been destroyed because of
their activation system driving everybody crasy!

MS can get away with anything because most people only know Windows so
activation is not a problem here! In any case, all new PCs from
reputable dealers comes with Windows pre-loaded so home users aren't
concerned about activation.

Hey Leythos,

Did I touch your raw nerve?

If a system has any form of spyware then surely you can't blame
Microsoft. How about these people to stop visiting those undesireable
sites which are the major source of malwares and viruses.

Long Live microsoft! 30 more profitable years would do it very nicely!!

Most probably you are. The fact that Adware finds something in the
system it does not make it better.

I have a test system which never goes online and which no one is allowed
to use it. Everytime I scan it with latest Adware signatures, it finds
something. I don't think I can rely on this product which keeps missing
something first time round but finds it 2 hours later. Surely,
something is a miss here.

MS has got its own weaknesses but they are minor as far as I an
concerned. For example, how many times I launch/use Excel in a day is a
very useful statistics for MS but to me it is not something I should be
concerned about if MS comes to have this info about me.

I shall continue using MS until something better comes out. I am not
yet impressed with the launch of OpenOffice version 2.

Hey Leythos,

Did I touch your raw nerve?

Nope, never had a compromised system under my control - you?

sites which are the major source of malwares and viruses.

I've seen people compromised while visiting commercial sites for
reputable companies - like when they didn't secure their webservers and
malware was installed on the server, then the visitors get hacked...

So, it appears your just another FUD type, and based on your other post,
you must be Kurt's brother.

There is nothing wrong with Product Activation for those that have
nothing to hide.

There is no such thing as a "the most reliable" anti-spyware program.
Same thing with anti-virus programs. It's best to keep 2 installed. But
of course, if you are into "automated" scanning, then only allow one to
work 24/7. Use the second as a double-check.
