When I launch IE from the desktop, I get the "Page cannot
be displayed" page every time. When I launch the browser
from within Windows Explorer, it works fine but will not
launch any linked pages or spawn new browser sessions. I
know I am connected to the internet because my Outlook
express works, Netscape works (yuck), and IE works
somewhat within Windows Explorer. This started happening
about a week ago when I was cleaning up some spyware. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled the browser. Any ideas???

OK, I got it too. Started yesterday on my Win2K Pro machine. Same exact
symptoms as you describe.

What have you determined should be done?? Reply here cause my email id here
is bogus.

Open the Internet Options applet in Control Panel
Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" on the Advanced tab.
You may also have to set the Home Page to about:blank

Then eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to

http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

.
Sorry, didn't work. I can still run IE successfully from
within Windows Explorer, but not from the desktop. I have
made sure I don't have any spyware or viruses. I have
applied all of the Windows and IE updates. It seems as
though there are two copies of IE on my system.
