Padding - table vs. cell

I have a table with padding. Is there a way to remove that padding from a
row or a cell or does it have to apply globally (to the entire table). I
can't find where I can change padding for just a row or cell. Perhaps it's
not an option???

Under format ---> borders and shading, it doesn't reflect the padding, so
that doesn't help.

Thanks in advance. Diana

Right Click on the table,,,,Cell Properties.
You can achieve individual padding by nesting tables.

Ok Crash,

When I right click and choose cell properties ... there are no options for
padding. Did I miss something? It's the same as what's under Table, table
properties, cell.

The Only way you can pad a cell (separately from the table) is using CSS
Select Cell Properties and Style - Format - Borders - padding
- not supported by all browsers

Otherwise select w/ a cell and use Table Insert Table to nest a table (single cell) w/ different cell padding than the outer table

Ok ... the cell that I want no padding on is the very top row. I have a
background image applied to the table, and padding (of course ... that's the
issue here). I want to colour the top row differently from the rest which
works. However, the padding space immediately across the top of the row and
its sides, displays the background image and I don't want it to do that. It
looks too busy for my liking. If I nest a table inside that cell that spans
the width of the table, I'm not convinced that it will stop the padding from
displaying the background image. Does that help. I hope I haven't confused
you more. Here's the page that has the table where you will see the padding
in the top row of the schedule. I hope it isn't just something I don't
understand ... or maybe I do ... then it can be fixed more easily, if I just
do it right. Lots to learn! http://members.shaw.ca/cchoir/choir.htm

I suppose I should ask if the nested table will over-ride the existing
padding ... if not, it'll be nested for nothing. Thanks for your help

Why not just insert a new table at the top of your page above the current table, then delete the top
row from the original table that is below the new table?

Yes, I had consider it and might end up doing that as a work around.
There's always more than one way to do things. I was hoping to keep it in
the table, but it might not be the best alternative. Thanks Thomas.

I already do have 3 tables in there, not counting the frame that runs across
the top and the frame that runs down the side. I'm not afraid to have extra
fames ... just didn't expect this particular problem ... not being able to
change padding at the cell level, so, as you say, I'll end up creating a
table for that row. Thanks for all your help. Diana

I'm just getting into webdesign ... and am enjoying it. On the sites I
have, I have more than one table. One of them has, 4, I think. Sometimes,
rather than fighting with the width of columns against cells that have been
merged or split (take your pick), I'll just create a new table. I'm still
miffed by not being able to adjust the padding a the cell level, but I guess
that's how it is with where the technology or the programming is. I
appreciate you insights Thomas. Now that I know it can't be done, I'll at
least stop trying to figure out how. So ... thanks.
