Packets Sent Showing in the Trillions?!?

For some reason on Intel(R) PRO/100 VM NIC it shows the status of Packets sent as a HUGE number in the trillions. The received packets are reasonable though. I have many other machines of exact type without this problem. When rebooted the number does not reset.

Ideas?

Sounds like the NIC has a terminal illness. NIC's are cheap - try another
one.
If you really are getting all that traffic then maybe you are hosting a
music site that you did not even know about - but first change the NIC
