p grading to XP from 98SE

After the usual checking your system , enter product code
etc. It starts loading files then I get this message:
<windows root>system32\hal.dll C:\$win_NT$~ls\i386
\asms\100\msft\windows\GDIPlus\GDIPlus.catis corrupt it
contains all zero's
Any-one help me?
