I need to print a report from a word processor called Yeah Write to a
disk file. No way to do it within the program itself. In a burst of
brilliance <grin> I set up a new printer in WinXP that's called "Print
to file" with "File:" preset as the destination.

I tried printing the file to File: using that driver, no errors, but now
I can't find where it saved it to disk! It never asked me for a file name.

Any idea what this generated file is called, and how I can get to it?

Thanks.

Have you done a Search for "File:" ?.
Altho` Yeah Write should Save the file to a folder.
Or you might be able to Select All, and copy it to where
you want.
Any way to skin a cat.

I believe it should have a .PRN extension. Search for it.

Yeah, the search showed nothing. Yeah Write doesn't have a way to save
a report to a folder, only printing to printers. I wish it did have
this. I'll try your other suggestion. Thanks.

Okay, friends, I figured it out. It has to do with the stuff you have
to do in Windows to set up the printer driver. I fiddled with it and
finally got it to kinda work. Lots of ANSI characters I had to remove,
but it only took a few minutes.

I wish this were easier...<grin>

Thanks to all.

Screen shot, perhaps?
A two colour ( i.e. black and white ) bitmap should be good enough.

Well, I think I've got it covered. Thanks for the hints. It's
something I'll only do once (I hope), and it's done. I'll actually
sleep tonight.

Thanks again.

I would install CutePDF which acts as a printer driver. This way you can
print to a PDF file.

I tried contacting them today, but their number has been disconnected.
And I have a registered, full copy, and I don't know that any other
versions had this feature.

I sent an email, and it hasn't bounced. I'm hoping to hear from them.

Jeff..... do a file search for a file '*.prn' and you will find it.

For future, install a new printer and use 'Generic' from the list.
use that printer to print with and in the printer driver options, use
print to file.

Lee

Jeff, if you named the file "File:" (with the colon) there won't be
any file on your computer - names ending in colons are devices, not
files. (I probably misunderstood your post, though.)

Did it, no file found. In fact, I wasn't asked for a file name at all.
I figured out how to tweak it and get it to work, and used "Generic"
as you suggest below, and it almost worked perfectly -- it still threw a
lot of stuff into the file.

Thanks for the help.

It didn't ask for any file name at all: that's the curious part. I did
tweak it and get it to ask for a file name.

That's exactly why I decided not to use it. Otherwise, the concept is
really great.
