Oversized PST

A customer of mine has exceeded the 2GB limit on
his PST file - it will no longer open.

I copied it, and attempted to run SCANPST. It ran
for about 6 minutes and got to at least Pass 4 of 8,
then terminated with an error message that gave no
info, essentially saying "There was an error encountered,
scanning has been terminated". I tried it again on the
original and again on the copy. Same result at the same
place.

This is the version of SCANPST that comes with Office
2000, dated circa 1998.

Do I have any other options? The customer is frantic.

ps: I normally use privatenews.microsoft.com for this
sort of question. I have not used it in a few months. It
no longer accepts the password I've been using for years.

Can you point me toward getting that fixed too?

Another option is to upgrade to Outlook 2003, create a new OL2003-format
PST, then import the data from the old PST file.

I don't think the import will be possible until the oversized PST is shrunk.
