I have reboot my machine and router, but after a while the outgoing packets are very high while the incoming are reasonable. One might think that this is a Trojan, but I have run a scan, which came up clean and I have installed all of the MS most recent Win XP patches. Any ideas?

Ive seen other responders say this is probably a bug in the nic driver
software that causes it to return an incorrect count.
You could get some diagnostic tools from www.sysinternals.com or download a
network connection monitor.

If you have over 2 billion packets sent & 27k rec., something i
definetly busy. When you say you've scanned, is your anti-virus de
files updated? Have you scanned for spyware? If the answer is yes t
both then you need to identify the culprit. Try installng zonealarm
it's free (www.zonealarm.com) & when you install it you configure wha
programs get out. Once you identify it, you can kill it.
