Outlooks checks mail second before first check finished

I have an interested problem. I have Windows XP Office XP with
Outlook 2002 and a broadband connection. When Outlook checks for
incoming mail the first time after opening up Outlook, it then begins
a second mail check before the first one is complete.

What can I do to make Outlook complete the first check without
starting a second check in the middle. This is bogging down my
receive time.

It is impossible to troubleshoot automatic polling when you do not post
your mail account type, connection type and polling settings.

How often are you checking for mail? Your automatic polling shouldn't be set
to check for new mail any less than every ten minutes.

Well first of all I didn't know it was called that-I figured it
out.Mail account is POP3 and the polling was set for five minutes. I
have now reset it to 10 minutes.

Please do not assume that everybody has the same knowledge base as
you. If we did, we wouldn't be bothering you.
