Chris

If I export my mail to a *.pst file can Outlook2000 import it? I have
tried this (even tho my O2K is on an exchange server) I cant seem to
import my mail.

On a related note, I have heard that MS is doing things of this nature
to sorta "force" you to upgrade. Meaning that the newer apps change
the data in question so that previous versions can't access it.

FYI - I heard that in a Micheal's Minute (LindosOS)

Thanks for your help and I hope all the above is NOT true.

I have the same problem. I have been unable to import 2003 .pst files into
Outlook 2000. Would have been nice if someone had told me this was not going
to be possible. I lost a lot of information.

No you cannot export a Outlook 2003 pst when its is created in unicode mode
and import it into an earlier version. What you need to do is create a new
pst in Outlook 2003 (from the File menu) and make sure that you specify the
format as 97 - 2002 and then use drag/drop. I doubt if its an attempt to
force an upgrade but what you have to remember is that an Outlook 97 - 2002
pst has a 2GB limit whereas Outlook 2003 is about 20GB default.

So what your saying is: Never mind the import/export feature? Or use
it? I don't recall ANYTHING asking me if I want to save it as a
certain type of format.

The process went like so:

Export
To a file
Personal Post (pst)
Where to

Bingo - that's it. Now, if there is another way of doing it - Don't
you think MS ought to make that known if not in the same place as the
import/export option? Maybe it did and I just didn;t see it, but I
don't think that's the case.

If this is sort of on the obscure way of doing it, then it makes me
consider that its a way of "forcing" you to upgrade.

If it's not in the Import/Export section - how does MS expect the
simple home user to know otherwise if they are coming from an older
version (which I might add, is most likely the case).

Actually - if MS has this sort of documentation, I would like to see
it in it's original format. If it's on the website, please post the
URL.
