Outlook XP read as plain text

I decided to tell Outlook XP to read mail in plain text as outlined in this
Microsoft article. Turns out you have to add a registry key in the Mail
folder to do it.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307594

But on my computer, Regedit does not show the Mail folder under Outlook
Options. It only has Calender, General, and MSHTML.

Any ideas why my registry structure is different that MS says it should be,
or how I might implement this change?

Thanks

Double check which registry 'hive' you're looking in. Make sure you're in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER and not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Can you right click on the key that you're looking at and choose Copy Key
Name. Then paste it here... what you're seeing is very very odd....

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options\General

Is this what you wanted?

Yes, that was what I was looking for...

Have you tried a Detect & Repair operation (on the Help menu) since it does
seem like you're in the right place but missing a slew of registry stuff

OK I dug up the install cd and ran Detect and Repair.
No change, here is the Key Name copy again:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options\General

Thanks

You said I was missing a slew of registry stuff. Could it be related to the
version of Office XP that is installed? I am a teacher and this copy was
provided by my school for use at home by faculty. I've got it installed on
two computers, and both of them have the same registry path.
Is it possible that the General folder is where I need to put the key that
the MS article refers to?
Thanks

You can try creating the value in the key mentioned in the article, creating
keys as you go.

Problem solved: I had the idea that maybe the Mail key is created only if you
change an option. So I went in to Outlook and changed my editor choice, and
sure enough the Mail key has appeared in the registry!

Thanks for the help.
