After a weekend of struggle with this issue of Outlook XP on Win2000 not
connecting to internet, timing out, etc. I am glad to announce that I
finally won
It seems way too many people have this kind of problem and nobody knows how
to fix it and Microsoft of course no damn about it.
So there it is - I tried everything from repair installation of Windows
2000, to manual removal of Outlook Express (yes that one stopped working too
during the battle). Very many people suggest that it's Norton Antivirus. But
disabling email checking and even uninstalling it did not do it for me. What
did it was removing of firewall ZoneAlarm ! After removing it, I noticed
that at least hotmail email started working. After that I had to click on
"use default settings" for one of the accounts that still did not work.
Anyways, for some reason Outlook XP does not like anything that could stand
in a way of Internet connection.
