Outlook XP corrupting binary attachments

Has anyone experienced this anomaly?

It's as if Outlook's MIME decoder is malfunctioning.

The same message downloaded from the same POP3 mailbox
using Outlook Express is fine!

It was working before but this started happening at some
point. I have checked the Outlook mailbox size, it's
quite small. I have checked it for integrity and it
passes all tests.

XP Home and Office XP are patched to the hilt.

Hopefully others have experienced this and have found the
cause and a solution. Unfortunately, extensive research
on the Internet has revealed nothing. :(

Cheers

What kind of corruption? What error messages do you get?

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal

Milly, thanks for responding.

There is no error message. An example of the problem is
if there is an image attachment, when opening the
attachment, the image will open in an image viewer
(because of the file extension association) but the image
will be total garbage.

Naturally, if the attachment is something like an MS Word
document, then Word will complain that the file is not in
a valid format.

Thanks again
Eddie
