I am getting a send error now in Outlook XP with earthlink.net as m
mail server.

The error is:

Task 'mail.earthlink.net - Sending and Receiving' reported erro
(0x800CCC65) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported a
internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact you
server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The serve
responded: 503 Valid RCPT TO <recipient> must precede DATA'

I found the error number on a web page:

0x800CCC65 = SMTP_503_COMMAND_SEQ Improper command sequence.

There are no messages in my Outbox folder. I searched this forum an
tried the things suggested, like renaming outbox.dbx, but I can find n
such file on my C: drive.

Any help will be appreciated.

I suspect that this may have something to do with Earthlink rejecting all
the recipients in your message because sending to them would be relaying
(see
http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/preview.aspx?AssetID=HA011128331033
for details on this), and that authenticating to your outgoing server might
help (see that link). If that doesn't help, could you turn on diagnostic
logging (see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q300479) and post
the OPMLog.log file (preferably as an attachment) after you get this error
message?
