I was working in Internet Explorer and my system shut
down. When I rebooted, I could no longer open Outlook. I
don't get any error message, the Outlook logo just stays
on my screen.

I can open any other MS Office application.

Please help!!!

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000
or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will
need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat
controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause
Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

I am having the same problem or it goes very slowly 5-8
mins to load using Outlook XP. but I can't find this
file. I checked the search hidden files and everything
without any luck. Any ideas????

A related problem (posts elsewhere) is that Outlook opens multipl
copies of itself at the "process" level and this blocks new "visible
copies from working. The Process level copies do collect e-mails bu
other functionality is impaired.

This is a relatively new problem and possibly the result of "servic
upgrade" !!
