PLEASE HELP-I AM STUCK!
Created a new Exchange mail account, in addition to my
POP3 email accounts (Exchange account newly added today-
Outlook using only POP3 was working perfectly).
Once complete, the IP address to host was resolved fine,
etc., but for some reason was not able to connect. I
closed Outlook to reboot machine (running MS 2000), but
when tried to restart Outlook - it just sits there (Not
Responding). When I close Outlook via Task Manager or
Application Recovery Tool, it tries to open in Safe Mode
(never opens), or go through recovery process (shows
successful), but never opens. I have also tried to remove
the new acct. via Properties in Outlook - but it also
never responds.

Thank You, Tony

Hi - what version of Outlook? Note that OL2000 and earlier do not support
Exchange and Internet Mail in the same profile.

Also - what do you mean by "IP address to host" ? Do you have an IP address
as your Exchange server name? Use the name instead - if you are using VPN,
etc to connect from outside the office, you may need to put this in a hosts
file with the correct IP. If you're on a LAN with Exchange, you shouldn't
need this - WINS or DNS should handle it for you.

You might want to go to control panel | mail and create a new mail profile
with just Exchange in it to test - and whatever you do, make sure you have
mail set to be delivered wherever you really want it - in the Exchange
mailbox or a PST file. I'm voting for the former - but I don't know your
setup.

Running Outlook 2003 and OS is MS 2000 . I meant to add
that to post. I apologize. I had the etc/hosts file
setup and had resolved fine when connected to host server
via VPN. Would try the new mail setup, but even when go
there - it does not respond/come up (just like clicking
desktop Outlook Icon and Properties - just sits there
frozen. Have to close using Task Mgr). Whatever the
issue - it's a good one! Thank You for any resolution you
may have.

What's your VPN connection speed/performance like? How big is your mailbox?

For VPN users, I always configure Outlook to work offline and have them work
offline by default w/scheduled background syncs (you can use cached mode
w/OL2003). Improves performance a lot.
