I get various error messages on send they usually indicate that I could not
connect to the smtp server or that the server timed out. Error codes
sometimes indicate that some program is blocking the "send". I have a
reformatted drive running a basic copy of XP Pro with Outlook and Word
installed. The email account is set up properly. I have the service
provider stumped. They suggested contacting Microsoft.

What kind of Internet connection do you have? What kind of Firewall do
you have?

I use a cable modem. Zone Alarm is installed on the computer. This problem
exists whether Zone Alarm is active or not. Also, very occasionaly send will
work.

Are you properly authenticating to your outgoing server?

I just went through this this weekend on my home computer, WinXP pro and
Office XP. I was having some problem with Contacts and the Address book and
screwed up a bunch of stuff trying to solve it, including the Accounts entry
for my ISP that contained the POP and SMTP settings. Unfortunately I am not
at that machine now but I can tell you that in the window where you make the
POP and SMTP settings there is another button to bring up more settings and
then there is a four tab window that comes up and one of the tabs has an
Authenticate SMTP box that needs to be checked to make it work with my ISP's
server.
